Abstract

Abstract

An unusual case of ectopic lacrimal gland tissue deep within the orbit is presented. Its association with a congenital orbital varix is discussed, and the embryology of the lacrimal gland is reviewed. Widening of the left orbit secondary to the varix resulted in enophthalmos, causing the patient's condition to be erroneously interpreted as proptosis of the right eye.
