Posttraumatic suprascapular nerve injuries are unusual. When they occur, however, the mechanism of occurrence usually involves a significant injury to the osseous structures or articulations of the shoulder (1-3). We present a case of suprascapular nerve denervation that resulted from trauma to the nerve sustained during a midshaft fracture of the left clavicle. MRI was instrumental in the diagnostic process by demonstrating altered signal intensity in the muscles innervated by the suprascapular nerve (supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscles).
