Colitis Associated with Alpha Interferon?

Alpha interferon has proved to be a useful therapy for chronic infectious hepatitis in children (1). However, recent reports suggest that alpha interferon may worsen ulcerative colitis (2,3). We describe a child with no known gastrointestinal illness in whom a severe microscopic colitis developed while she received interferon therapy for chronic hepatitis C. The colitis resolved when the interferon therapy was discontinued.
