Excerpt

Intramural hematomas of the gastrointestinal tract have been reported in bone marrow transplant (BMT) recipients (1,2). Although esophageal, gastric, and ileal hematomas usually occur spontaneously at the site of ulcers caused by infection or graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), duodenal hematomas in these patients may be more commonly a complication of endoscopic biopsy (3). We report two cases of duodenal hematoma developing as a complication of endoscopic duodenal biopsies in children who had undergone bone marrow transplantation.
