Biliary fistulae have been described after hepatobiliary surgery, from biliary tract disease and after hepatic trauma. The mortality and morbidity is significant but can be minimized if diagnosed early and treated appropriately.
A thoracobiliary fistula is an uncommon complication of hepatic trauma. The following case illustrates the development of such a fistula and the highlights of the management are discussed. The concepts of management include drainage and adequate decompression of the extrahepatic biliary tree.
