Thoracic aortic rupture is a well-recognized consequence of blunt chest trauma. It almost always occurs at the aortic isthmus, and the ascending aorta is rarely involved. A pseudoaneurysm usually develops, and aortic dissection is seldom caused by blunt chest trauma. Here we report a case of successful surgical repair of an acute Stanford type A dissection in a patient injured in a motorcycle crash.
