Methods: Data was collected from our Trauma Interventional Radiology and Trauma Registries over the thirty two month period between November, 1995 and June, 1998. The stents placed consisted of palma covered stents or corvita endovascular stents.
Results: A total of seven patients were identified which underwent placement of a percutaneous endovascular stent. 4/7 (57%) of these patients had placement for acute penetrating arterial injuries while 3/7 (42%) were placed for acute iatrogenic trauma. 7/7 (100%) of all procedures was successful in eliminating 6 (86%) pseudoaneurysms and 1 (14%) unresolved A-V fistula without morbidity or mortality.
Conclusion: Percutaneously placed endovascular stents are a viable alternative for acute traumatic arterial injuries in the stable trauma patient resulting in excellent early patency rate; however, long-term follow-up with larger cohort of patients are needed.
