Excerpt

Hemobilia was originally described by Frances Glisson in 1654. 1 It results from arterial hemorrhage into the biliary tree. Although iatrogenic causes are now more common, trauma still contributes significantly to this condition. Selective embolization of the culprit vessel has been established as the treatment of choice for hemobilia. Although this treatment modality is very successful, it is not without complications. We describe the case of a patient with hemobilia from a gunshot wound to the cystic artery with the complication of migration of the embolized coils. To our knowledge, this is the first described case of recovery of these coils from the common bile duct.
