Excerpt
Idiopathic scoliosis is a common condition seen and treated by pediatric orthopedists. Flexion distraction injuries of the cervical spine are at risk for instability and have a high rate of failure with nonoperative treatment 1. We present a case in which a 14 year old female, who was status post successful posterior spinal fusion for idiopathic scoliosis, sustained C6 on C7 bilateral perched facets after a cheerleading accident. To our knowledge, this is the only reported case in which a cervical spine injury occurred above a previous spinal fusion for idiopathic scoliosis from a fall.
