Since the introduction of airbags, numerous collateral-type injuries have been reported. With these injuries, the danger of high-speed airbag deployment, especially in children, has been recognized. This has resulted in the development of “smart” airbags, airbags that deploy more slowly, and legislation forbidding small children to ride in the front passenger seat. We present herein a case of a 7-year-old boy who sustained an unusual life-threatening injury from airbag deployment.
