Accurately measuring maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) requires very complex and expensive equipment that must be properly calibrated and operated by trained individuals. Thus, VO2max testing is generally only available in laboratory settings. A portable device that is simple to calibrate and use has recently been developed to determine VO2max in a variety of settings.
