Employers attempt to hire and retain physically qualified individuals to optimize productivity, minimize job-injury costs and comply with federal employment laws. Employment requirements that results in a disparate impact on specific groups must demonstrate a valid association between said requirements and the essential functions of the work. This study was designed to develop and validate a functional ability testing protocol (FAT) and associated measurement instrumentation, for the purposes of qualifying employee candidates and incumbents for specific materials-handling production jobs (MHJ).
