Excerpt
This study determined whether four self-paced household tasks (sweeping, window cleaning, vacuuming, mowing) were performed at a moderate intensity (3 to 6 METs) in a representative sample of 35 – 45 yr old females. The energy expenditure of self-perceived moderate paced walking was used as a marker. Comparisons were also made between the energy expenditures of the household activities in a standardised laboratory environment and the subjects' homes.
