Patients with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) can have a wide range of activity levels. Decreased activity levels, and more specifically, reduced weight bearing, have negative effects on skeletal muscle composition. Inactivity may lead to increased levels of intramuscular fat (IMF), which are associated with increased insulin resistance and the development of Type II diabetes.
