Abstract

Nursing schools have begun to experience enrollment declines that have been common in many other disciplines. Attempts are being made to remedy this through more vigorous recruitment. The author raises fundamental questions that need to be addressed before we launch recruitment programs, questions such as (1) Why recruit students into nursing? (2) What are the issues concerning institutional mission that determine whether a school should be in nursing education? and (3) What are we recruiting students into?
