Penetrating trauma to the scrotum is uncommon given its degree of mobility and location. However, some recent reports suggest that this injury is increasing because of the greater incidence of violence in today’s society (1). Management of penetrating scrotal injury varies depending upon the extent of the injury; however, the initial steps in evaluation should be consistent from case to case. To our knowledge, the emergency evaluation of this injury in the pediatric population has not been described in the literature.
We present the case of a 16-year-old boy who sustained a penetrating scrotal injury from a javelin. An algorithm for the evaluation and management of penetrating childhood scrotal injury is also presented.
