CENTRAL SEROUS CHORIORETINOPATHY ASSOCIATED WITH ANTHRAX VACCINATION
BRADLEY S. FOSTER; DAVID D. AGAHIGIAN
Excerpt
Owing to its stable spore form, its relative absence of naturalized immunity, and its ability to cause a severe, life-threatening infection, Bacillus anthracis is recognized as a potential biologic weapon. Its use in domestic mail attacks and its prominent role in suspected international weapons programs have forced the Department of Defense to initiate and enforce the vaccination of all high-risk military personnel against anthrax. The anthrax vaccine adsorbed is administered as a series of six doses, followed by annual boosters. Reported systemic adverse events have included joint conditions and hypersensitivity pneumonitis, as well as optic neuritis. 1 We report a woman who developed central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) after anthrax vaccination.
