Abstract
SUMMARYAugust rat kidneys were examined 24 hr after transplantation into AS rats which had been immunised either actively or passively with “hyperimmune” AS anti-August antiserum. Hyperacute rejection was invariably produced if recipients were given an i.v. injection of 4 ml of guinea pig serum postoperatively. The results show that, in the absence of guinea pig serum, hyperacute rejection fails to occur because of inadequate or ineffective fixation of native complement to the graft.
