Abstract
ABSTRACT
We tested simple mathematical models to predict salt dynamics proposed by Bresler (1967) and Burns (1974) under practical irrigated conditions in two soils, viz., sandy loam and clay loam. The Bresler model, which considers only downward movement of salts, predicted salt dynamics reasonably well in a sandy loam soil that did not develop surface cracks. The Burns model was not applicable to even the sandy loam soil. Neither of the two tested models could have been applied to the clay loam soil, which developed surface cracks of varying dimensions during drying after every irrigation.
