Antibiotic cement beads can be utilized in the reconstruction of large segmental bony defects to serve as local antibiotic delivery vehicles and as space preservers for later bone graft placement. A staged reconstruction protocol and attention to the details of bone graft placement can hasten the time to union and provide excellent functional results.
