Abstract
In the three preceding segments of the President's Biomedical Research Panel Report, we have presented the observations of this landmark commission's “Interdisciplinary Cluster on Nutrition.” These distinguished scientists have assessed the state of the science of nutrition and offered their observations on what lies ahead. In this final segment, they present their concept of the resources required to reach nutrition goals and suggest approaches to future developments, including the teaching of nutrition in medical schools. A bibliography is included.
This four-part series of articles has appeared exclusively in Nutrition Today, where it has attracted wide comment. Members of Congress, the government, the health professions, and the public have all remarked upon the depth of study represented by this undertaking. We are especially grateful to Charles U. Lowe, M.D., Executive Director of the President's Biomedical Research Panel (and currently Special Assistant for Child Health Affairs in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare), for the privilege of making the contents of this significant but relatively obscure document available to the readers of Nutrition Today.
