Ann Gallagher, RD, former president of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), received the Marjorie Hulsizer Copher Award, the ADA’s highest honor, at the October Annual Meeting of the ADA in St Louis, Mo. Ms Gallagher is president of F.A. Gallagher Associates, a consulting firm for geriatric care providers, who specializes in legislative issues. Since 1989 she has been ADA’s representative to Congress on geriatric healthcare issues.
The ADA also awarded its 2001 Medallion award for outstanding service and leadership to 8 recipients: Cheryl Bittle, PhD, RD, LD, of the Portland Area Indian Health Service, Portland, Ore; Kitty Coffey, PhD, RD, LDN, Dean of Family and Consumer Sciences at Carson-Newman College; Lea Ebro, PhD, RD, LD, of Oklahoma State University; Elvira Johnson, MS, RD, CDE, Director of Clinical Nutrition Services, Cambridge Health Alliance, Cambridge, Mass; Jo Ann Pegues, MPA, RD, Program Specialist at the USDA Administration on Aging, Denver, Colo; Rebecca Reeves, PhD, RD, LD, FADA, of Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Tex; Carol Shanklin, PhD, RD, Kansas State University; and Riva Touger-Decker, PhD, RD, FADA, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Health Related Professions.
