This is a report from the HIV Outpatient Study (HOPS), which is an observational cohort with approximately 1,800 patients from 8 participating clinics in the U.S. The present study analyzes outcome, with a sequential analysis since 1994 showing a decrease in death rates. The decrease occurred abruptly with introduction of HAART in 1995–96, as illustrated in Table 3.
