Abstract

Complications of acute and chronic sinusitis are rare but can be devastating and occasionally life threatening. Acute sinusitis, especially frontal sinusitis, has the potential for complication and should be treated appropriately. Patients who develop complicated sinusitis need very close observation and aggressive medical treatment. In unresponsive cases, surgery is necessary when vision loss or intracranial complications occur. Patients with osteomyelitis can be treated with intravenous antibiotics. Special cases may occasionally require sinus surgery. Although mucocele is not an emergency condition, it may require drainage. Endoscopic sinus surgery is very helpful in the treatment of mucocele.
