Abstract

The normal aging process affects human function profoundly. Some aging effects on the voice are obvious. Hearing even a few words over a telephone usually indicates whether we are speaking with a child or an adult. Frequently, we can also identify a speaker as elderly. Some of the phonatory characteristics associated with advancing age are inevitable, but others may be modified through medical intervention.
