THROMBIN ROLE IN INFLAMMATORY SIGNALING
Excerpt
Sepsis is associated with a systemic activation of coagulation and an excessive inflammatory response. Thrombin has been shown to have an effect on leukocyte activation. This indicates that thrombin may play a role in the onset of inflammation by recruiting and activating inflammatory cells. Our studies were aimed at determining intracellular responses of monocytes to thrombin in comparison to endotoxin.
