Abstract

The varicocele is the most common treatable cause of male infertility. The pathophysiology of this common condition remains enigmatic. Recently, new sensitive techniques have been used to diagnose subclinical varicoceles. Their clinical significance has yet to be confirmed. In addition, technical developments have broadened the therapeutic options for varicocele. This paper reviews the current status of these areas of controversy.
