Tri-State Occupational Medical Association (TSOMA), an ACOEM component society, will meet on October 3 in the Columbus area at the Ohio State Medical Association in Hilliard, Ohio. Topics covered will include neuropsych testing, occupational cancers—evaluating clusters using a recent case, pain management, occupational disorders of the upper extremity, sleep disruption in shift workers, traumatic brain injury, and assessment and treatment of knee injuries for an occupational physician.
This meeting will be preceded by ACOEM's Commercial Driver Medical Examiner (CDME) Course on October 2. It is critical for all persons involved in certifying the medical fitness of commercial drivers to be fully aware of the available guidance and medical literature that should be considered as part of the certification determination. It is ACOEM's intent that this course will meet the eventual educational requirements of FMCSA's proposed National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

The 2009 National Environmental Public Health Conference will be held on October 26–28 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, Atlanta, Ga. “Healthy People in a Healthy Environment” is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health and by the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry, in conjunction with the National Environmental Health Association.
This conference seeks to promote the nation's environmental health capacity by enhancing the expertise of environmental health professionals including public health and healthcare professionals, academic researchers, representatives from communities and organizations, as well as advocacy and business groups. It consists of six tracks—Healthy Places; Public Health and Environmental Exposures; Sustainability and Public Health; Environmental Systems and Public Health; Environmental Health Emergencies; and Environmental Health Science and Practice.
