Excerpt
Since the advent of hemodialysis (HD), a variety of musculoskeletal diseases have been reported in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease on HD.1,2 Widespread use and improved methods of HD, combined with aggressive renal transplantation, may have changed the spectrum of rheumatic diseases in this population compared with previous reports. Musculoskeletal disorders have an impact on health-related quality of life (QOL), and HD patients have been reported to have a compromised QOL.3 The purpose of our study was to document the musculoskeletal diseases in 2 chronic HD populations and assess the effect of these musculoskeletal diseases on their quality of life.
