POCT has emerged as a reliable and effective medical laboratory strategy used the Emergency Department [ED] to reduce length of stay, improve quality of care, and modify clinical outcomes in those patients who present to the ED with chest pain. Several International Organizations have endorsed rapid Turn-Around-Time [TAT] for cardiac markers within 30-60 minutes from blood draw to reporting of results to Health Care Givers. POCT has demonstrated its clinical and cost-effectiveness in clinical studies with a saving around $4000 USD. The Mexican Institute of Social Security is the main Health System in Mexico that in 2005 received 16 millions of patients in the ED. There were around 2 millions of clinical assessments for chest pain. As a result of it, ED in the IMSS is overcrowded with an increase in ED length of stay and a decreased in the quality of care provided. We undertake a clinical study with the aim to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of POCT vs Conventional Central Laboratory [CCL] in the ED of a Cardiology Hospital.
