Preparation of low-molecular-weight hyaluronan using ultrasonic degradation

Abstract

The hyaluronan at different concentrations were degraded in ultrasonic oscillator by changing ultrasonic frequency, water bath temperature and pH value. The hyaluronan at the concentration of 2.0 g/L degraded at the highest rates. High ultrasonic frequency and low temperature were propitious to hyaluronan degradation, while the pH value had little influence on it. Moreover, acid condition was a little more convenient for hyaluronan degradation than neutral and basic conditions.
