Evaluation of several biological dressings in treating burn injury

Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

To evaluate the application of biological dressings in treating burn injury.

METHODS:

References were retrieved in Chinese Journal Full-text Database (CNKI: 1980/2008) with the key words of “artificial skin, biological dressings”. Then the retrieved reference was analyzed.

RESULTS:

By reading the titles and abstracts, 6 experiments concerning 100 cases were included for further analysis. It demonstrated that dermal substitute plays a vital role in skin reconstruction, which can increase skin elasticity, ductility and mechanical wearing in wound healing, decrease scar proliferation, and inhibit seizures, especially the lively fibroblast exists in dermal substitute can facilitate the epidermis differentiation, induce the formation of basement membrane.

CONCLUSION:

Human tissue engineered skin with full thickness is characterized by manipuility and easy to use. The operation can cure the wound with shorten time without pain to the patients. There is no reject reaction or other adverse effect. However, the results need further evaluation due to lack of experiment.
