Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Triton X-100 and epoxy chloropropane modification with glutaraldehyde-treated bovine jugular venous conduit is a new type anticalcification valved conduit for right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction. There are few reports on the biocompatibility research.

OBJECTIVE:

To evaluate the cytotoxicity of the new type anticalcification bovine jugular venous conduit in vitro.

METHODS:

The cytotoxicity of the new type anticalcification bovine jugular venous conduit (experimental group) and only glutaraldehyde treated bovine jugular venous conduit extracts (control group) was detected by CCK-8. The relative growth rate was calculated and the toxicity was graded at days 2 and 4.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:

CCK-8 test results showed that the relative growth rate of the experimental group was more than 85%. The toxicity grade was 1, and there was non-cytotoxicity, which were significantly better than those in the control group (P < 0.05). It was indicated that Triton X-100 and epoxy chloropropane modification with glutaraldehyde-treated bovine jugular venous conduit had no cytotoxicity and should be a safe implanted material.
