Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Clinical research indicates that the bone cell apoptosis has been involved in the pathogenesis process of steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head, is the cytological basis of genesis and evolution.

OBJECTIVE:

To summarize research progress of cell apoptosis in the pathogenesis of steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head.

METHODS:

The PubMed database, Springer Link database, Science Direct database and CNKI database were retrieved for papers published from October 1990 to October 2011 with the key words of “steroid, necrosis of the femoral head, cell apoptosis” in Chinese and English. The relevant articles concerning steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head and cell apoptosis were collected. The redundant researches or Meta analysis were removed.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:

This article summarizes the related apoptosis genes of steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head from the aspects of definition and measurement of cell apoptosis, histological and morphological changes of the cell apoptosis in the steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head and the pathogenesis of cell apoptosis in the steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head. The related genes include Fas and FasL Fas protein, Bcl-2 family, p53 gene, nitric oxide, Caspase and nuclear factor κβ. Hormone is one kind of cell apoptosis inducer. Steroid-induced necrosis of femoral head and cell apoptosis are closely related.
