Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells exhibit the capacity of multi-lineage differentiation and show advantages in treatment of liver disease, nervous system disease, lung disease and kidney disease. There are increasing studies regarding treatment of cardiovascular diseases.OBJECTIVE:
To review the application of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in treatment of cardiovascular disease and the underlying mechanism.METHODS:
A computer-based online retrieval was performed to search papers describing bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells for treatment of cardiovascular diseases published during 1985-01/2009-12 in CNKI and PubMed databases. The key words are bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, cells transplant, therapy, cardiovascular disease. Forty-two papers were included in the final analysis.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:
A large number of studies have demonstrated that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into functional cardiac tissue and vascular endothelial tissue in infarct tissue and improve cardiac function. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells show superiority over conventional therapy in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:
