TLR4 is expressed by macrophage, endothelialcells and smooth muscle cells on arterial wall and it takes an important roleon the initation of inflammatuary processes. Inflammation plays a major role inthe pathophsiology of atherosclerosis which is the main cause of CAD. In thepreviosus studies a relationship was assumed betweenatherosclerosis process and Toll like receptor polymorphism.


To definingthe relationship between TLR4 Thr399Ile polymorphism and coronary artery diseasediagnosed by coronary angiography.

Material and methods

Two hundred patients who hedcoronary angiography were received in the study. 150 patients had coronaryartery disease and 50 were normal. Subgrup analysis was performed according to theseverity of coronary artery disease. The presence of polymorphism of TLR4 Thr399Ilein patients was defined with a Real-timePCR method.


Neither the presence (p=0,794) nor the severity (p=0,941) ofcoronary artery disease were related with TLR 4 Thr399Ile polymorphism.Hyperlipidemia (p=0.374), diabetes mellitus (p=0.353) and obesity (p=0.912)were also not associated with a TLR4 Thr399Ile polymorphism, but thefreguencyof the polymorphism was lowerin patients with hypertension (p=0.028).


The presence of TLR4 Asp299Gly polymorphism withcoronary artery disease was caused in previous studies, but the relationship of TLR4 Thr399Ile polymorphism and coronaryartery disease is controversial. In our study we were could not find anyrelationship between TLR4 Thr399Ilepolymorphism and coronary artery disease.
