Patients with blood-related disorders such as hemophilia, anemia and Von Willebrand disease, as well as cancers of the blood (e.g. lymphomas and leukemias) and chemotherapy-induced immumonsuppression and anemia are receiving new and improved agents in the clinic.

The recent meeting of the American Society of Hematology, held December 5-9, 1997 in San Diego, CA, provided profiles of some of the most effective treatments currently in the clinic for a variety of hematological disorders. These clinical approaches are reviewed in this article.
