Abstract

IN BRIEFTerbinafine is a highly effective antifungal agent that may be considered an advance in the treatment of dermatophytosis (dermatophyte skin infections) and onychomycosis (fungal nail infections).Pharmacoeconomic analyses conducted with both topical therapy in dermatophytosis and oral therapy in onychomycosis have shown that terbinafine is the most cost-effective option in terms of cost per disease-free day. However, these results may not be applicable in all countries. Nonetheless, the drug may be considered to be a first-line option in both of these indications, despite having higher acquisition costs than some alternatives.
