Abstract

Folliculitis is a superficial inflammation of the hair follicle. The anatomical location and histopathological patterns are used to classify most follicular conditions. The origin of folliculitis may be of infectious (e.g. bacterial, fungal or viral) or non-infectious. Non-infectious forms may be of known or unknown aetiology or associated with other diseases such as HIV or atopic dermatitis. The treatment of folliculitis depends of its cause.
