Abstract

Post-adolescent acne in women can have a marked effect on health-related quality of life. The causes of the condition are not fully understood, but it is important to rule out any underlying endocrine abnormalities. Combination therapy with second-generation oral tetracyclines, topical retinoids and benzoyl peroxide should be initiated in women with moderate to severe acne. For unresponsive cases, oral isotretinoin, oral contraceptives and antiandrogen therapy may be useful
