Abstract

Results of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and pharmacogenetic tests may reveal inherited differences in the activity of drug metabolising enzymes and drug transporting proteins. TDM is also useful in the analysis of non-inherited variations in drug metabolism or excretion (e.g. those caused by drug-drug interactions or co-morbid conditions). By disclosing the factors causing drug concentration-dependent adverse reactions, these tests may provide a basis for individualised drug therapy
