Abstract

Management of labour pain requires a flexible approach, as the needs of each individual are likely to differ significantly. Although inhalational agents, such as a 50 : 50 mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen, are very successful for the management of pain at the onset of labour, more potent analgesic agents are likely to be required as labour progresses, with an aggressive approach using the epidural technique recommended.
