Abstract

Lithium is considered a first-line mood stabilizer in patients with bipolar disorder. However, its narrow therapeutic range and association with a wide range of adverse effects has resulted in a recent decrease in the use of lithium and an increase in the use of other agents. This article briefly summarizes the clinical evidence supporting the use of lithium in this indication.
