Abstract

Antipsychotic agents differ in their propensity to cause endocrine and metabolic adverse effects, such as hyperprolactinaemia, weight gain, and disturbances in glucose and lipid metabolism. Patients receiving antipsychotics should be monitored for these adverse effects. Management strategies include reducing the drug dosage, switching to an alternative antipsychotic and using additional interventions.
