Abstract

Prucalopride, an enterokinetic agent, is a potent, selective and specific serotonin 5-HT4 receptor agonist indicated in the treatment of chronic constipation in women in whom laxatives fail to provide adequate relief. In three 12-week trials in patients with severe chronic constipation, prucalopride significantly improved bowel habit and associated symptoms, patient satisfaction with bowel habit and treatment, and health-related quality of life.
