Abstract

Intravenous vernakalant is effective in the rapid termination of recent-onset atrial fibrillation in both nonsurgical patients and post-cardiac surgery patients, and is generally well tolerated. In keeping with the more rapid onset of action of vernakalant, sinus rhythm conversion rates are significantly higher with vernakalant than with amiodarone in the first 90 minutes following infusion.
