Abstract

Delirium is common in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Management of ICU delirium involves prevention and treatment with nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions. Intravenous haloperidol is the recommended treatment for delirium and may also be considered for prophylaxis. The use of sedative and analgesic agents that may cause delirium should be avoided.
