Abstract

The evolution of fluoroquinolones has seen a marked improvement in the bacterial coverage, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of members of this drug class. Clinical studies have demonstrated that fluoroquinolones are usually as effective as other recommended antibacterial regimens for treating lower respiratory tract infections. However, in order to reduce the emergence of fluoroquinolone resistance, they should be used appropriately
