Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER

Tai Chi reduces the number of elderly patients falling and the rate of falls (SOR: A, systematic review of RCTs). Patients not at high risk for falls may achieve a greater reduction in falls with Tai Chi than those at high risk (SOR: B, systematic review of heterogeneous RCTs). Exercise programs such as Tai Chi are recommended for preventing falls in older persons (SOR: A, guideline based on systematic review).
