Abstract

EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER

Yes. High-dose influenza vaccine reduces laboratoryconfirmed influenza by 24% more than standard-dose influenza vaccine in elderly patients (SOR: B, single RCT). High-dose vaccine is associated with a lower rate of probable influenza and hospital admission due to influenza (SOR: B, retrospective cohort). However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not prefer 1 influenza vaccine formulation over another in patients 65 years and older (SOR: C, expert opinion).
